Decreased Sex Drive? Fat Gain Around your Middle? Estrogen Dominance Could be the Cause by Tracy Blehm

Our endocrine system is a wonderfully complex system that monitors our organs, systems, emotions and our physical appearance. One hormone out of balance can cause a multitude of symptoms that are difficult to diagnose. Estrogen dominance is one of them. Estrogen is the body’s natural steroid hormones that cause growth within our body. It is essential for healthy bone formation, healthy gene expression and is critical for a healthy menstrual cycle. It is also important during ovulation as it causes the cervical mucus to be more hospitable to sperm for fertilization. Continue Reading

Morning Sickness and Acupuncture by Dr. Ganna Shalygina

Morning sickness  is a very common phenomenon during pregnancy. It occurs in about 70-80% of pregnant women. In some cases, nausea and/ or vomiting can last up to 16 weeks.

The exact cause of Morning Sickness is unknown, but there is a theory that states that it may be an ancient mechanism for protecting the fetus from poisons in food ingested by the mother, as well as elevated levels of pregnancy hormones.  Continue Reading

Struggling to conceive? Menstrual cycle a mess? High Stress Lifestyle? You could be experiencing a Progesterone Steal by Tracy Blehm.

One of my favorite pieces of advice I received from all kinds of therapists, doctors, nurses, friends and family during our early days of struggling to conceive was – Just Relax!

If you are like me and have been struggling for a while to conceive then you want to punch people in the face for that comment. I was a charting junkie, a temperature junkie, herbal supplements, kookie positions…you know the one – raise your hips with a pillow which I did to the point that I needed chiropractic adjustment, went on a vacation, got drunk, etc, etc. This is a difficult thing to do when conceiving becomes a mission. Relief from Edema with BodyTalk By Paige Challoner

Water retention of the extremities, or edema, is very common during pregnancy, and although it is most common in the third trimester, some pregnant women may experience it during any stage.    What is happening is excess fluid is collecting in the body tissue, which typically occurs in the ankles and feet, and sometimes even in the hands.   It is normal to have a certain amount of swelling during pregnancy as water is being retained to assist with the changes in blood chemistry.  As the uterus grows and puts additional pressure on the pelvic veins, blood circulating from the lower extremities slows down and causes it to pool.  As more blood pools, the excess fluids in the blood will be forced from the veins and into the surrounding tissue.  As more and more fluid is forced out, more water is retained in the tissue, causing it to expand and swell.  Continue Reading

It is no wonder why pregnancy can make you feel completely fatigued with the continuous changes your body is making throughout the various stages of foetal development.  Add in your normal busy workload, other daily life stresses (commuting, what’s for dinner, juggling appointments), and soon fighting those cold and flu bugs, and feeling drained or worn out at any time of the day can turn into the norm throughout your pregnancy, and beyond.
