One of my favorite pieces of advice I received from all kinds of therapists, doctors, nurses, friends and family during our early days of struggling to conceive was – Just Relax!
If you are like me and have been struggling for a while to conceive then you want to punch people in the face for that comment. I was a charting junkie, a temperature junkie, herbal supplements, kookie positions…you know the one – raise your hips with a pillow which I did to the point that I needed chiropractic adjustment, went on a vacation, got drunk, etc, etc. This is a difficult thing to do when conceiving becomes a mission.
The problem is how do you relax and why is that so important when today’s lifestyle is go-go-go and then go some more? Let me clear it up for you in easy terms. Our reproductive system is an amazing complex system
that repeats itself over and over again each month. When those hormones go out of balance the system crashes. When the hormone Progesterone goes MIA from the reproductive system to assist our adrenal glands we are in trouble. Let me
explain.
Stress interferes with our lives in many different ways and one of them being our reproductive system. 80% of infertility and miscarriage with unknown cause is due to stress. Of course this emotional and biochemical process can be very difficult to diagnose. The reason is basically a lack of progesterone.
Progesterone in a nutshell means “for gestation”, in other words you need this hormone in perfect balance in order to become pregnant and stay pregnant. This beautiful little hormone tells the body to nourish the uterine lining and thicken it in preparation for implantation of your fertilized egg. This hormone needs to be continually produced and provided to our reproductive system to ensure that our uterine lining is fed and nourished for the duration of the pregnancy. A drop or discontinuation of this hormone causes our menstrual cycle to kick into gear and the lining is shed.
Here is where stress comes in to mess things up. Stress as we all know causes our body to be in “fight or flight” mode. This emotion requires our adrenal glands to create additional cortisol and adrenaline which is a normal bio chemical process for our survival. In order for our adrenal glands to produce these two hormones they require progesterone.
This scenario is known as the “progesterone steal”. Your body automatically defers your progesterone in whatever amount is required in order for it to produce cortisol. This steal causes a deficiency in our reproductive system and therefore causes an imbalance of progesterone to estrogen and testosterone. Here is where people will start supplementing with progesterone. DON’T!!
Just supplementing with this hormone does not support your exhausted adrenal glands and does not heal the issue around stress. Being pregnant can be stressful and having a newborn is as well. This is a basic cause and effect and without
working through the healing process of your stressful lifestyle you will never get your reproductive hormones back to normal and your adrenal glands will be burnt out. This can lead to more complications down the road with your
pregnancy and toxemia. BodyTalk ™ is an easy way to rebuild the communication within your body and balance your hormones. It is a beautiful way to gently and non-invasively rebalance your progesterone to where it should be
naturally and rebuild your adrenal glands. This was the ticket to our first child after 3 years of chaos and craziness. My adrenals wanted progesterone and they got it!
